Entre hoje e ontem para dizer sobre amanhã
Galeria Leme presents ‘Entre hoje e ontem para dizer sobre amanhã’ [Between today and yesterday to tell about tomorrow], the second solo show by Rebeca Carapiá at its space. The exhibition brings together experimental works from the last few years, such as suspended sculptures, drawings, and oxide iron on canvas, incorporating previous researches and pointing to possible developments in the artist’s poetics. On the opening day, 28 October, at 1pm, the artist will give a guided tour open to the public. The exhibition remains on display until 24 January, 2024.
In her body of work, Carapiá presents sinuous sculptures that reunite experiments and point to the complexity of her creative process. The artist creates her own imagery vocabulary, in Japanese ink drawings, which reverberates throughout the various series presented at this show.
“This exhibition is an encounter with materiality, the body in the world, tiredness, desire, and how all these elements are placed in the present moment,” says the artist.
The arrangement of the works in the exhibition space resembles a studio environment and promotes dialogue between different forms and languages. A large horizontal iron sculpture stretches across one of the gallery’s walls, while vertical and smaller ones are suspended. They are interposed by small canvases that translate the time of materiality present in the artist’s creative process.
“In ‘Entre hoje e ontem para dizer sobre amanhã’, I open and exhibit my process and path. It’s an exercise of an artist, that insists on the prevalence of the lived experience in the studio, which was founded so recently. I explore here the concepts of tiredness, excess, and matter, which are so present in this exhibition,” complements Carapiá.
