Marcia de Moraes

São Carlos, Brazil, 1981.
Lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil.

Márcia de Moraes, a Brazilian visual artist, stands out for her exploration of the language of drawing. The work of the São Paulo-based artist delves into the interactions between color and form, establishing a dialogue with the Brazilian abstract tradition. With a degree in Visual Arts, she moves between technical precision and expressive spontaneity, creating dynamic and sensory compositions. Moreover, her creations evoke psychic rhythms and visual narratives that transcend the two-dimensional plane, adding depth and intensity to her production.

Márcia de Moraes’ artistic practice is primarily focused on drawing, making expressive use of colored pencils on paper. Her diptychs and polyptychs, as well as her collages, break the conventional boundaries of the medium, establishing unexpected visual connections. While her contours flow organically, chromatic contrasts structure the composition, resulting in a balance between movement and solidity. In many of her works, she cuts and reconfigures the paper, creating fragmentations that enhance the relationship between figure and background. With solo exhibitions held at renowned institutions in Brazil and abroad, the talented artist reaffirms her relevance in the contemporary art scene.

  • The vergito of writing one’s body into the abyss of the world | Bianca Coutinho Dias | 2021

“A Terceira” [The Third] explores issues related to the fields of art and psychoanalysis, centering around the instinctual body, or the body of drives: teeth, breasts, leaves, spines, tree trunks and so on – vibrations and disruptive features leap from their original environments, only to re-emerge visually in the artist’s works. Through her drawings, the […]

  • Failed Acts by Olivia Ardui | 2015

The set of works showcased in Failed Acts suggests an ongoing movement interrupted and renewed in each drawing. The works vibrate with an internal pulse, to the rhythm of an eternal mismatch between areas filled with colour and the emptiness of zones left white. As two immiscible liquids, this ambiguous game of repulsion or attraction […]
