FIRST SOLO SHOW BY SANDRA GAMARRA AT LIMA ART MUSEUM
Galeria Leme is pleased to announce the exhibition “Producción/Reproducción”, by Sandra Gamarra, the artist’s first solo show at the Lima Art Museum, in Peru. On the work presented, the artist gathered reproductions made in a copyists’ workshop in China of the so-called miscegenation paintings commissioned by Viceroy Manuel de Amat y Junyent and sent to the Spanish King Carlos III in 1770. On them, Sandra added quotes from different contemporary feminist thinkers.
The meaning of “Producción/Reproducción” lays on an usually neglected aspect: the subordinate but essential role of women in the production and reproduction of labor forces.
The works also become part of the Lima Art Museum’s collection.
