About the Exhibition:

Peruvian artist José Carlos Martinat presents “Essence: Matter”, an innovative exhibition at Proyecto N.A.S.A.L. in Roma Norte, Mexico City. The show explores the relationships between organic materials, healing processes, and their physical and spiritual implications.

The installation draws inspiration from the geometric structure of the SARS-CoV-2 genome, using colors and textures in fabrics dyed with natural elements such as turmeric and palo rosa. Based on research conducted at the Sonora Market in CDMX, Martinat incorporates ritual practices and materials with symbolic power, creating a sensory space that merges sound, color, and aroma.

The project reflects the artist’s ongoing interest in exploring the intersections between architecture, textiles, and healing. Referencing the ideas of Gottfried Semper and Juan Acha, the work connects ancestral practices with new forms of spatial intervention.
