Germana Monte-Mór | Revolta em preto e branco
Germana Monte-Mór takes part in "Revolta em preto e branco" (Black-and-White Revolt), an exhibition curated by Max Perlingeiro and Shannon Botelho, on view from September 11 to November 21, 2026 at Pinakotheke Cultural, Rua São Clemente, 300, Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro.
The show revisits a pivotal episode in Brazilian art: the 1954 Black-and-White Salon, held at the Palácio Capanema. Faced with restrictions on the import of art materials such as paints, pigments and canvases, artists including Iberê Camargo, Milton Dacosta and Djanira turned the salon into a collective protest, presenting works made entirely in black and white. More than an aesthetic choice, the absence of color became a demand for better working conditions and a statement by artists before the public authorities.
Bringing together 61 works by 50 artists, including eight shown in the original salon, along with documents, photographs and newspapers from the period, the exhibition draws this historical moment closer to the present. It is within this dialogue that Germana Monte-Mór takes part, as one of the artists in the section devoted to contemporary practices and to the questions the 1954 gesture still raises today.
