Luz, Linhas, Lugares

21/11/2012 - 22/12/2012

Galeria Leme is delighted to present Luz, Linhas, Lugares: a solo exhibition by Candida Höfer.

“”Luz” (light) is always the first thing that attracts me about a space.

“Linhas” (lines) are not only the geometrical lines that construct space but also the lines connecting cultural traditions.

And “Lugares” (places) describe for me the singularity of each individual space
I have been fortunate to experience.

When I had first come to Brazil – upon an invitation by Alfons Hug, the director of Goethe Institut Rio de Janeiro – I was fascinated by the difference in the similarity: I had been traveling in Portugal before, had visited palaces and churches and other places there – but here in Brazil the light was so different, gold was golden not only in substance but in its shining, all colors seemed to breathe freely here. It has been this attitude towards light that I not only experienced in the historic buildings but also in the contemporary architecture of this country.”
