style=\"text-align: justify;\">Galeria Leme presents <strong>\u201cControl | Corrosion | Dispersion,\u201d<\/strong> a solo exhibition by artist Beto Shwafaty bringing together some fifteen works that reflect on contemporary society through objects, their materialities, and the meanings they carry. In his practice, Shwafaty addresses how historical, economic, and social processes become inscribed in everyday items, turning them into interfaces that simultaneously conceal and reveal these tensions.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The exhibition\u2019s title does not seek to categorize the works or divide them into sections, but rather to point to procedures that recur across a range of social contexts around the world. \u201cI try to make these operations perceptible without illustrating them, allowing the objects themselves to bring out the historical, economic, and political relations from which they emerge and from which they are inseparable,\u201d he explains. \u201cThe interest lies less in narrating a story than in constructing a field of relations, an atmosphere of meanings.\u201d For the artist, \u201ccontrol\u201d refers to the mechanisms that administer bodies, territories, and resources; \u201ccorrosion\u201d points to the continuous wearing away of the social and material forms produced by those mechanisms. \u201cDispersion,\u201d in turn, stands for the uneven distribution of the effects of these processes and for the difficulty of attributing such conflicts to any single event or agent.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In \u201cControl | Corrosion | Dispersion,\u201d objects are of interest not only for the meaning or symbolism they project, but also for the material conditions of their existence. To this end, the artist works with different languages and materials \u2014 such as tracing paper with sugar, tea, and burnt coffee in <em>A\u00e7\u00facar nas veias<\/em> [Sugar in the Veins] (2017), or the previously unseen <em>O sonho da terra, \u00e9 o sonho americano<\/em> [The Dream of the Land Is the American Dream], which brings together items including a baseball bat, a crowbar, handcuffs, and a red cap.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Beyond their conceptual dimension, the works are built from the physical and material qualities that the chosen objects are able to communicate, moving away from strategies of representation in favor of the manifestation of material relations. Such is the case of <em>Dark Horse [Black Rider]<\/em>, in which a Lubrax oil drum, a riding saddle, a US flag, and rough wooden wedges form a structure whose apparent solidity conceals an unstable condition of permanent tension.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some works engage the present moment explicitly, as in Choque [Shock] (2019), whose form evokes at once a ballot box, a ballistic shield, and the observation windows used in armored vehicles. \u201cIn my work, I seek to subvert the expectation that art should be transparent, domesticated, or disinterested, or that it should serve a single purpose,\u201d the artist states. \u201cI believe that making art is an operation that demands both individual and collective effort in order to propose something uncertain and slippery.\u201d Shwafaty presents works that speak openly to contemporary contexts \u2014 pointing to structural conditions, not merely circumstantial ones.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Each work has its own entry, contextualizing it and indicating part of the process and the ideas involved in its conception, without being confined to a single reading. \u201cI\u2019m not concerned with there being one single interpretation of the works or of the exhibition, nor with the message being immediately grasped,\u201d he says. \u201cWhat interests me is that the interval between work and viewer remains active, that it produces reflection and, perhaps, some kind of
