This time, Sandra Gamarra will transform the gallery\u2019s exhibition room in an ecclesiastic space, in order to establish parallels between the artistic and the mystic experience.\r\n\r\n\u201cMilagros\u201d consists in 13 canvases, \u201cNimbos\u201d, a sculpture made of areolas, and \u201cSalmos\u201d, a sound installation. These canvases, created from photographs that the artist has taken in galleries and museums around the world, show one or more spectators observing works of art. \u201cNimbos\u201d and \u201cSalmos\u201d, in their turn, contain elements of the religious universe that, dismissed from their original function, generate new tensions between the mystic and the aesthetic.\r\n\r\nThese pieces belong to the series \u201cNovos Oradores e Novos Peregrinos\u201d, in which the artist makes reference to art spectators, to art spaces and to the public\u2019s peregrination towards galleries and museums. \r\n\r\nFor Sandra Gamarra, more than understanding and appreciating, a spirit of witnessing predominates. The spectators situate themselves in front of works of art with the intention of making contact with a truth that sometimes dodges and, at other times, is impenetrable.\r\n\r\nObserving works of art is, before any political or philosophical reality, an act of faith.\r\n\r\nAbout the artist:\r\n\r\nSandra Gamarra was born in Lima, Peru, in 1972. She lives and works in Madrid. Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, including the shows \u201cPipe, Glass, Bottle of Rum: The Art of Appropriation\u201d, Museum of Modern Art, New York (2008); \u201cTr\u00f3picos\u201d, Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin (2008); \u201cRel\u00edquias e Ru\u00ednas\u201d, SescSP, S\u00e3o Paulo (2008); \u201cLocated Work Project\u201d, coordenated by Joseph Kosuth, La Casa Encendida, Madrid (2008); \u201cExist\u00eancias \u2013 Colecci\u00f3n MUSAC\u201d, Museo de Arte Contempor\u00e1neo de Castilla y Leon, Le\u00f3n (2007); \u201cUrbe y Arte\u201d, Museo de la Naci\u00f3n, Lima (2006); \u201cStill Life\u201d, Museo de Arte de Lima, Madrid (2005); and \u201cEmergencias\u201d, Museo de Arte Contempor\u00e1neo de Castilla y Le\u00f3n, Le\u00f3n (2005).
