Consecrated photographer of monumental and empty architectural spaces, the German artist studied at the Kunstakademie D\u00fcsseldorf, first, film with Ole John, then photography with Bernd Becher. Her photographs investigate the structure of public spaces and the means by which architecture can manipulate human experience. At times, her images foregrounds the excess of ornamentation of a particular place and the impact this exerts on the observer; in others, it is the dominance of geometry and its ordering principle, which often goes unnoticed by those who walk around and pass through these spaces.<\/p>\r\n

H\u00f6fer\u2019s works invite us to reflect on the sensations that these spaces produce in us, and how we are influenced by them. Her work has been shown in museums like the Kunsthalle Basel, the Kunsthalle Berne, the Portikus, Frankfurt am Main, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Power Plant, Toronto, the Kunsthaus Bregenz and the Museum Ludwig, Cologne. In 2002 Candida H\u00f6fer participated in documenta11 and in 2003 she represented Germany at the Venice Biennale.<\/p>","description":"

Consecrated photographer of monumental and empty architectural spaces, the German artist studied at the Kunstakademie D\u00fcsseldorf, first, film with Ole John, then photography with Bernd Becher. Her photographs investigate the structure of public spaces and the means by which architecture can manipulate human experience. At times, her images foregrounds the excess of ornamentation of a particular place and the impact this exerts on the observer; in others, it is the dominance of geometry and its ordering principle, which often goes unnoticed by those who walk around and pass through these spaces.<\/p>\r\n

H\u00f6fer\u2019s works invite us to reflect on the sensations that these spaces produce in us, and how we are influenced by them. Her work has been shown in museums like the Kunsthalle Basel, the Kunsthalle Berne, the Portikus, Frankfurt am Main, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Power Plant, Toronto, the Kunsthaus Bregenz and the Museum Ludwig, Cologne. In 2002 Candida H\u00f6fer participated in documenta11 and in 2003 she represented Germany at the Venice
