Galeria Leme is pleased to participate in the twenty-first edition of SP-Arte, presenting a selection that brings together different artistic techniques across generations and cultures. The showcase highlights recent works by represented artists while continuing the gallery’s established practice of introducing new names to the Brazilian art market.
The booth features a wooden sculpture by Jaume Plensa, presented in parallel with his second solo exhibition at the gallery. Renowned for his sculptures and public installations, Plensa explores the relationship between materials, language, identity, and human experience. While his practice examines these themes through form, Sandra Gamarra Heshiki approaches them from a different angle, using painting to question historical and institutional narratives. Following her participation in the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024, Heshiki will exhibit one of the works shown in the Spanish Pavilion, along with a new painting that expands her research into decolonial approaches to art history and social, environmental, and cultural issues often overlooked within institutional contexts.
Celebrating 50 years of artistic career and culminating in a major solo exhibition at the Instituto Moreira Salles featuring over 200 works, Luiz Braga presents two black-and-white photographs taken on Marajó Island. The artist has developed a close relationship with the area’s unique light, its environment, and its people. His work constructs a new visual narrative of the Amazon, moving away from stereotypes to offer an intimate portrayal of urban and peripheral life in the region.
The gallery’s presentation also includes works by David Batchelor and Tiago Sant’Ana, alongside a mostly new selection by Gabriel Giucci, Gabriela Giroletti, Germana Monte-Mór, Heloisa Hariadne, Marcia de Moraes, and other represented artists. Reaffirming its commitment to integrating emerging artists into the circuit, the gallery showcases ceramics by Jorge Enciso, works by Olinda Silvano Inuma, and a special edition of three-dimensional paintings resulting from a collaboration with Canadian artist Lisa Milroy.
